In
2013, Arup led the development of the world’s first building facade
that links photosynthesis to the mechanical systems of the building.
The
BIQ house cultivates microalgae on by feeding carbon emissions to generate biomass and solar thermal heat.
Constructed
in Hamburg, the BIQ house is a living demonstration of the potential
of using a 'waste' - CO2 in this case - as food for another purpose.
The photobioreactors are integrated into the skin of the building,
producing a brilliant visible display for passers-by.
Two years on from turning on the bioreactor for the first time, this webinar provides
us with an opportunity to hear what Arup have learned about the technology, and where they hope to take it next.
