IAAD TURIN DESIGN WORKSHOP 2016 L'ARTE DI FARE LE CITTA' Torino città dell'integrazione: la cultura come leva strategica di trasformazione sociale dal 15 al 19 febbraio 2016 _________ IAAD annuncia la settima edizione degli IAAD TURIN DESIGN WORKSHOP, un sistema di workshop sinergici organizzati annualmente a febbraio fra il I e il II semestre. Una settimana dedicata al confronto su temi di attualità relazionati al mondo del design e alla sua diretta connessione con la società contemporanea, un momento fondamentale del percorso creativo-sperimentale-didattico in cui studenti, docenti, aziende e istituzioni lavorano insieme per il territorio e i suoi bisogni. Il tema di questa settima edizione prende spunto dall'opera dell'urbanista inglese Charles Landry The Art of City Making. Contro il modello dello urban engineering, che si concentra esclusivamente sulle infrastrutture fisiche, egli crea il concetto di infrastruttura creativa, connubio tra gli elementi materiali e le dinamiche umane di un luogo, le sue connessioni e relazioni, la sua atmosfera. Le città devono essere le più creative per il mondo e non nel mondo. Così la creatività viene ad assumere un fondamento etico. La creatività civica – sostiene Landry – è la capacità immaginativa di risolvere problemi applicata a obiettivi volti al bene collettivo. Presuppone da parte del settore pubblico un maggiore spirito imprenditoriale, pur entro i limiti istituzionali, e da parte del settore privato una maggiore consapevolezza delle proprie responsabilità verso la collettività. La città creativa, concetto da lui coniato nei tardi anni '80, è divenuto nel tempo un modello condiviso per ripensare la pianificazione e la gestione delle città. Proprio nella Torino appena nominata Città Creativa UNESCO per il Design, IAAD torna a lavorare sul, con e per il territorio, locale e globale: la città e il quartiere, teatri quotidiani di dinamiche riproducibili su larga scala. Già al centro di molti interventi, tra cui la sede IAAD e il nuovo centro direzionale Lavazza, l'area del quartiere Aurora sarà oggetto di un nuovo progetto di riqualificazione: con una delibera approvata a fine novembre 2015 dalla Giunta Comunale, Torino si candida al bando del Consiglio dei Ministri che mette a disposizione quasi 200 milioni di euro per interventi di riqualificazione sociale e culturale. IAAD, in qualità di incubatore di innovazione e creatività, lavorerà per una settimana con 8 differenti workshop, progettando soluzioni per la riqualificazione di un territorio – citando l'Assessore all'Urbanistica e Pianificazione Strategica, Stefano Lo Russo – caratterizzato da un tessuto sociale particolarmente debole e fragile che necessita di interventi sia sullo spazio pubblico sia finalizzati a una maggiore integrazione. Una sfida che IAAD sposa per dna e vocazione e che porterà avanti anche nel prossimo futuro. La conferenza di apertura si terrà lunedì 15 febbraio alle ore 11.30 presso la Sala Lattes – Basic.Net – C.so Regio Parco 39 – Torino. I lavori saranno aperti dal Sindaco Piero Fassino, da Ilda Curti Assessore alle Politiche Giovanili, dall'architetto Cino Zucchi che ha curato i lavori di valorizzazione e recupero funzionale della sede IAAD e del progetto Nuvola di Lavazza, moderati da Laura Milani, Direttore IAAD e da Federico De Giuli, Direttore del Comitato Scientifico IAAD. I risultati dei workshop saranno presentati venerdì 19 febbraio alle ore 14.00 presso la Sala Lattes – Basic.Net – C.so Regio Parco 39 – Torino. L'utilizzo dell'immagine nell'invito è gentilmente concessa dall'autore Stelios Mousarris Wave City -Coffee Table IAAD TURIN DESIGN WORKSHOP 2016 THE ART OF CITY MAKING Torino the city of integration: culture as strategic lever for social transformation from 15th to 19th February 2016 _________ IAAD announces the seventh edition of IAAD TURIN DESIGN WORKSHOP, a system of synergistic workshops organized annually in February between the first and second semester. A week devoted to discuss around current issues related to the design world and its direct connection with contemporary society, a fundamental moment of the creative-experimental-educational path in which professors, students, companies and institutions work together for the territory and its needs. The theme of this seventh edition is inspired by the work of the British urbanist Charles Landry The Art of City Making. Against the model of urban engineering, which focuses exclusively on the physical infrastructure, he creates the concept of creative infrastructure, a union between the material elements and the human dynamics of a place, the connections and the relationships, the atmosphere. Cities should be the most creative for the world and not in the world. So creativity takes an ethical foundation. The civic creativity – argues Landry – is the imaginative capacity to solve problems applied to objectives aimed at the collective good. It assumes by the public sector a greater entrepreneurial spirit, even within the institutional limits, and by the private sector a greater awareness of their responsibilities towards the community. The creative city concept, he coined in the late 80's, has become over time a shared model for rethinking the planning and management of cities. In Torino, just nominated UNESCO Creative City for Design, IAAD is back to work on, with and for the territory, local and global: the city and the district, daily theaters of dynamics reproducible on a large scale. Already focus of many interventions, including IAAD headquarters and the new business centre Lavazza, the area of the Aurora district will be subject of new redevelopment project: with a resolution passed at the end of November 2015 by the City Council, Torino candidates to the invitation of the Council of Ministers, which provides almost 200 million euro for social and cultural redevelopment. IAAD, as incubator of innovation and creativity, will work for a week with 8 different workshops, designing solutions for the redevelopment of an area – quoting the Councillor for Strategic Planning, Stefano Lo Russo – characterized by a particularly weak and fragile social structure requiring interventions both public and aimed at further integration. A challenge that IAAD has in its DNA and vocation and that will continue for the foreseeable future The opening conference will be on Monday 15th February at 11.30 am at Sala Lattes – Basic.Net – C.so Regio Parco 39 – Torino. Works will be opened by Mayor Piero Fassino, by Ilda Curti Assessor Youth Politics, by architect Cino Zucchi who oversaw the work of enhancement and functional recovery of  IAAD premises and project Nuvola Lavazza, moderated by Laura Milani, IAAD Director and by Federico De Giuli, Director of IAAD Scientific Board.
